Song Won’s Korean Grammar for Speaking is the quintessential text for learning how to speak and write Korean. As a proven, passionate, and dedicated teacher, Song Won has perfected his language learning system in the classroom. Now, he’s finally put those same methods into an informative, easy-to-understand textbook. Korean Grammar for Speaking is methodically organized and broken down into separate units. In the beginning, students will build a foundation by learning how to read, write, and pronounce Hangul (the Korean alphabet). From there, students will learn everything from the counting systems and present tense verbs, to more complex and complicated grammatical concepts. Within each unit, there will be vocabulary lists, a wide variety of practice problems, and end-of-unit quizzes. This comprehensive language learning textbook will have you speaking, reading, and writing Korean in no time! Along with Korean grammar, this textbook will teach students important vocabulary words that are useful in many common, everyday situations. It will also highlight Korean slang and colloquialisms, as well. Song Won’s language learning method is different from classic, traditional textbooks. This book will have students thinking and responding organically in Korean. The goal of Korean Grammar for Speaking is to make students fluent in Korean within six months. Although learning Korean will be a challenge, it’s a challenge that will reward students many times over.

Works best in conjunction with other learning materials instead of a stand alone resource due to the practice pages/drills. The mp3 recordings do help with improving listening skills and pronunciation although there is no order to them so you have to search. The layout of the book is easy to follow and it is simple to learn new grammatical points. One thing I took issue with is the layout of the vocabulary in the back. It does not follow a typical dictionary format so it takes some time to find the word.

This book is GOLD!!! Exceeded my expectations!!!

Purchased for a family member, here is the feedback:

“Where do I begin?! First I will start by saying that Mr. Song Won has done an outstanding job with this book. There is absolutely no filler! I received my book two weeks ago and I must say it’s been a great investment! Best purchase I have made! This book is genuinely designed with the intention of teaching you grammar for SPEAKING, I find this approach amazing!! I have purchased many expensive learning books in the past and they have not been helpful. Romanization is so confusing and I love that Mr. Song Won’s book does not have any:)

This book has a simple layout: You start a unit and you do the practice worksheet and that’s it. The content on the other hand is anything but simple, it’s loaded with crucial information. Every unit has NEW information… that’s 59 UNITS of condensed educational material!! This book is all gold and no filler!! My passion for learning Korean has returned. I have completed 9 units^^ and I LOVE IT! I highly recommend this book!!

Mr. Song Won has free lessons you can find on his youtube channel (Korean grammar for speaking). He covers the Korean Alphabet in detail:) If you purchase this book, make sure to follow Mr. Song Won on social media. He is on Facebook (Korean grammar for speaking), youtube, and Instagram (Koreanlab). He is willing to help answer any questions, I would take advantage of this before he gets too popular
